Good food, good ales, good company and good music; here at The Driftwood we’ve got the ‘social’ to do list covered from every angle!

All the team are looking forward to spending time with you over the festive break.  With something for everyone - from a cosy get-together by the fire with friends to a thumping great party night on New Year’s Eve - every occasion comes with our warmest welcome and best wishes for fun and happiness over the holiday season.

To help you plan your schedule, here’s our list of What’s On.

Thursday 13th December – People’s String Foundation & Virtual Orchestra

How do you get a 32 piece orchestra into a pub?  This isn’t the start of a bad joke, it’s the question answered by multi-instrumentalist and jazz singer Ben Sutcliffe and world/blues guitarist Zaid Al-Rikabi - founders of this renowned vagabond orchestra.  By performing alongside a recording of a live performance of their whole crew, these talented composers and musicians can bring a full-blown performance into smaller spaces. Tickets are £10 on the door or from www.crbo.co.uk.  Doors open at 7pm and the performance starts at 7:30pm.

Friday 14th December - Engine House Album Launch

Local boys James, Martin and John will be launching their first album 'Songs from the Loudtower' at The Driftwood.  Playing the latest material from their album rather than the covers that they have become known for, this three-piece invite you to rock with them from 9pm for a great start to the festive party season.

Saturday 22nd December – Ukulele Christmas Pub Crawl

As you know we do it different in St Agnes, and our choir comes with its own Ukuleles!  Follow St Agnes Ukulele group around the village or wait for their arrival at The Driftwood for an informal Christmas sing song.

Don’t forget to buy your raffle ticket because the 22nd is the night that we draw the raffle.  Prizes include golfing vouchers, hampers, beers and all manner of other treats.

Sunday 23rd December – Roast by the Coast

Let us do the hard work and give yourself a break before the festive madness really kicks in. The kitchen is open 12pm to 8pm and we’ll be serving up a succulent roast, giving you the chance to catch up with those you won’t be seeing on the big day.  Bookings advisable!

Christmas Eve

If you’ll all prepped and prepared, then we are open 11am to 11pm and you can relax! On the other hand, if you haven’t quite won the organisational battle then we’re serving food from 12pm to 7pm if that removes one thing from the to do list… This is the perfect time to treat yourself to a glass of Pudding Ale from the brewery for a real festive treat.

Christmas Day

We’ll be here to warm your cockles after the annual Christmas Day swim, offering a purely liquid diet from 11am to 2pm so you don’t ruin your appetite for all the treats in store at home. Please note that, in true Aggie style, this village event has evolved entirely of its own accord and isn’t an official organised Christmas swim so there is no lifeguard cover.

Boxing Day

If you’ve eaten all your leftover sprouts or the nut roast has lost its appeal, the kitchen is open 12pm to 7pm and the bar is open from 11am to 10pm for those that need refreshment after walking off the indulgences of yesterday!

December 27th – 30th

Is it just us or is Twixmas often better than the day itself?  We’ll be here from 11am to 11pm and the kitchen team will be serving their full menu from 12pm to 3pm and again in the evening from 6pm to 9pm.  Our Vegan and Gluten Free Options offer lighter alternatives if you’ve started that New Year health kick early…

Friday December 28th – The Stalks & Dubdrench Sound System

As a warm-up to NYE, The Starboard Quarter with be rocking to the sounds of Reggae, Dub, Ska and Punk. A great antidote to days spent sitting on sofas and watching Christmas movies or being polite to visiting relations with a chance to bounce around on the dance floor.

New Years Eve

That stomping great party that you’ve been looking forward to! Catch up with everyone to wish them a fantastic 2019.  Food served 12pm to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm.  Music TBC. We’ll be celebrating with you into the early hours – can’t wait!

New Years Day – Roast by the Coast

We’ll be here nursing sore heads with good humour! Open from 11am to 11pm with our Sunday Menu being served from 12pm to 8pm.  Let us nurse you.

January 2nd to 5th – Back to our own version of normal

As we begin our resolutions the kitchen is still open from 12pm to 2:30pm and 6pm to 9pm before the big refurb (more on that soon…).  Ease yourself into the New Year with relaxing meals and cosy drinks by the fire.

January 6th - Unwanted Christmas Present Lucky Dip

This fundraising event will be in aid of our 2019 nominated charity (to be revealed on the night). Bring us your unwanted Christmas Presents (wrapped or not) and we will put them into the lucky dip.  Purchase a ticket and cross your fingers in the hope that you pick something that you do want or need. Someone out there must want some pink fluffy slippers – mustn’t they?
