We have made it our mission to create a village hub, and to give back to the local community in a variety of ways – including raising money for good causes.

Every year The Drifty raises thousands of pounds for a specific social purpose, with a variety of fundraising events and initiatives spread across the months.

Louise has just distributed the final funds from the 2018 campaign to the sports clubs of St Agnes.

Over £5000 was raised, and £600 each given to clubs to support healthy lifestyles, both physical and mental, for local people of all ages.

The St Agnes clubs which have benefitted are the Boxing Club, Surf Club, Gig Club, Short Mat Bowls, Tennis, Netball, Rugby, Football, Croquet.

The money was raised by charity events such as the regular pub quiz, wine tasting, donating unwanted Christmas presents, the Christmas raffle and Bonfire night celebrations.

In addition, 10p from every pint of Spars (the pub’s charity beer) sold was donated to the fund.

We take our role in the community very seriously. We love hosting sports clubs in the pub for pre-match team talks, post-match drinks, celebrations and commiserations, and we’re thrilled that we’ve been able to contribute to their future success.

The clubs will use the funds to buy new equipment, improve facilities and attract new members.

For the 2019 campaign, the team have chosen to raise money for The Sunrise Appeal to improve the oncology facilities at Treliske.

We very sadly lost several of our much-loved regulars recently to cancer, and this is our way of paying our respects and leaving a lasting tribute. Fundraising has already started and will continue throughout the year.

On the 10th May a Consultant from The Sunrise Centre will be giving a talk at the pub about the importance of the unit to Cornwall, prevention through healthy lifestyles, how to spot the early signs of cancer, and how to go about attending screenings; everyone is welcome.
